Crab Competition
Rod ‘n’ Reel
On Sunday the Boat Competition for the Goldsmith Spoons took place amid much speculation
as to the rules for the competition. It was finally clarified that it was for the heaviest single fish
of the three species (Bass, Skate, & Smoothhound) and that points were to be awarded.
John Hards must have thought that he had it in the bag when he came in early with his close to
15lb Smoothhound but, near to the end of the weigh in, Darren Kennedy walked in with his
fine larger Smoothhound weighing 15.360lbs and took the prize. John was heard to sportingly
say ‘he was pleased that a nice cuddly bloke and a great angler like Darren beat him’ (or
words to that effect). Mick Carpenter had the heaviest Bass and Roger Symes had the
heaviest Skate. Congratulations to Darren (pictured with his catch) for the heaviest overall
fish and all the hardy anglers who took part.
Dont Forget. The next competition is the 2009 20th National Open Bass Festival. Run over
three days, 10th, 11th and 12th July. Print your entry form and get it in early. Click on the logo.
